Released in October 2024, Venom: The Last Dance is the third and final installment of the Venom trilogy starring Tom Hardy and directed by Kelly Marcel. Featuring a star-studded cast, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, and Andy Serkis, the film continues directly after Let There Be Carnage and sets Eddie Brock and his symbiote Venom on a desperate mission. With the government, alien symbiotes, and even Knull—the symbiote god—pursuing them, Eddie and Venom face insurmountable odds in a high-stakes, action-packed final showdown.
What is the Codex?
In Venom: The Last Dance, the Codex is a pivotal element holding the power to free Knull, the god of symbiotes, from his cosmic prison in Klyntar. Formed through Venom’s bond with Eddie, the Codex becomes the key that Knull’s minions, the xenophages, hunt across galaxies. When Venom’s full symbiote form reveals the Codex, it signals Knull, who refers to Venom as the “champion” while declaring his own title as the “King in Black,” threatening to claim all planets under his rule. Although the Codex is destroyed in the end, Knull’s power proves enduring as he plots for a greater return.
Can Area 51 and Imperium Stop Knull?
General Strickland of the Imperium program and Area 51 aim to eliminate the Codex by any means necessary. Strickland captures Eddie and attempts to separate him from Venom to prevent Knull’s forces from accessing it. Despite Dr. Payne’s focus on studying symbiotes, Strickland’s aggressive strategy overrides, while scientist Sadie takes a different approach by bonding with a symbiote to aid Eddie’s escape.

Strickland’s plan falters when a xenophage attacks, but Sadie’s alliance with the symbiote Lasher holds it off temporarily. Ultimately, Venom takes a sacrificial role by luring the xenophages to an acid-flooded vaporizer chamber. As a final safeguard, Strickland detonates an explosive, obliterating the symbiotes and sealing Knull’s threat to Earth—for now.

Is Venom Gone for Good?
While Venom appears to die in the destruction of the xenophages, a mysterious post-credit scene hints otherwise. A Mexican bartender introduced earlier reappears alongside a cockroach crawling near a broken vial. This scene sparks theories that Venom may revive through symbiote traces left behind in the bar. Another possibility is that the remaining trace could evolve into a new symbiote, hinting that Venom might yet return.
Could Crossover into the MCU?

Both Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rhys Ifans play characters in Marvel films outside Sony’s universe, yet there is no confirmed link between Strickland (played by Ejiofor) in the movie and Karl Mordo in the MCU. The two actors’ roles remain separate within Sony’s and Marvel’s respective universes, avoiding any crossover implications for now.
